My Wife Got Spore And All I Got Was This Darned Addiction

I fondly remember the E3 hype of old, touting Master Wright’s next leap forward in simulation gaming. A simple, single syllable: Spore. Up until recently, the word conjured thoughts of mold and infectious disease. I openly admit interest. Queen Geek (the missus) expressed a bit more, but I’ve learned the error of my ways.

Yesterday was launch day, and since roughly 11am pre-today, we’ve logged a combination of 20+ hours guiding our Spinder and Yodaskius to becoming sentient, galaxy trotting beings.

Barring a full review, the game is not terribly challenging, even at higher difficulties, but the sheer variety of gameplay and creation modes are somehow overwhelmingly compelling. I don’t know how else to explain it.

I’m honestly fighting the urge to go back to my space missions now.
