ESRB Adds to Ratings
The Electronic Software Ratings Board, the self-designated group of
game industry leaders that designate the appropriateness of games have
added a new scope to their ratings system. Similar to the addition of
PG-13 back when Raiders of the Lost Ark hit theatres in 1981 by the
MPAA, the ESRB has added E10+ to it’s rating between E (everyone) and T
(teen).
Patricia Vance, ESRB president, says the new rated was
generated to “provide consumers, particularly parents, with more
precise guidance on the age appropriateness of certain titles,
fulfilling our goal of helping ensure that the right games are selected
for their children and families.”
Surprisingly, anti-gamer Joe
Lieberman gave short praise for the group calling the move “timely”. It
should be interesting to see which games will be granted the new
designation. We’re assuming Resident Evil 4 isn’t one of them.
