Extreme Toons Get Their Voices

Voice talent and additional details were released yesterday on the
upcoming animated series Loonatics Unleashed from Warner Bros.
Animation. Virtual protest erupted all over the web just 2 months ago
when the WB announced their plans for a futuristic , hard core spin on
the classic Looney Tunes characters that have endured for the last 70
years. Celebrities and common folk alike expressed an extreme distaste
for the dark, angular look of the new characters hewn from the original
Bugs & Daffy gang. One 11 year old, with the help of a family
friend with a web design business, went so far as to create an online petition
asking Warner Bros. to consider creating new characters rather than
attempting an eastern anime style some consider very dark and sinister
looking.

I was a bit put off too after seeing the first
character sheets to come out of the Hollywood studios. Warner studios
has listened and gone back to soften the characters look, but the plot
remains the same. The year is 2772 and descendants of the original
Looney Tunes living in Acmetropolis have been granted ‘extreme’
abilities that prompt them to form a crime fighting sextet. The plot is
certainly not original and out of leftfield for one associated with the
Looney Tunes.

Despite it’s character design, the cast list is
an impressive one. Some of the most talented voice over artists are
involved, as are a few semi-regular celebrity cast members.

  • Rob Paulsen (Pinky & The Brain, Animaniacs)
  • Kevin Michael Richardson (The Batman, Halo 2)
  • Charlie Schlatter (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pet Alien)
  • Jason Marsden (Static Shock)
  • Candi Milo (
