Good News Everyone – Futurama is Returning to TV

The article title tells it all. Reporting on sites ranging from Entertainment Weekly to Popular Science, Fry and Bender are back with an order of 26 new episodes for Comedy Central starting in 2010. All the other online rags are comparing it to the Family Guy resurrection, but frankly this is bigger. Futurama re-runs were consistently number one top performers when they aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim before being picked up by Comedy Central so the popularity is hard to ignore. Thankfully the creators have heard the fan outcry and are literally going back to the drawing board.

Strong DVD sales? Check. High syndicated viewer-ship? Check. Massively successful straight to DVD movies? Yup. Sounds like natural progression to bring it back full circle and start fresh.

So thank you, Matt Groening. Thank you, David X. Cohen. Thank you Adult Swim and Comedy Central. Now, bring on my weekly dose of Slurm!
