Tacotopia – The Latest Pop-Up Art Installation

From eggs to scary movies to ice cream, from selfies to flowers to candy paintings, a wide range of pop-up art installations has been all the rage for the perfect Instagram photo-op. Now, it is time for a taco-inspired photo palace to take the spotlight.

Senorita Needs a Margarita

Cholula Hot Sauce brings Tacotopia, the latest in Instagram pop-up art palaces, to Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. But what makes Tacotopia different from other pop-ups is the interactivity and carnival-lite additions. A playground for all ages, Tacotopia incorporates rides like a taco teeter-totter, a mechanical taco, and a spinning taco bowl – in addition to fun, but more static art exhibits.

Tacotopia features more than twenty-five environments perfect for photo ops. While most are taco-centric, the installations also touch on Dia de Muertos, celebrate Nosotros tequila, and feature a Goddess of Tacos, reminiscent of a Hindu Goddess with several hands holding tacos. Pretend to be a wrestler in the Lucha Libra ring, hang onto gravity in the Upside Down Taqueria, and nod your head along with Chihuahua bobble-heads in the infinity room. Of course, every pop-up tends to have some sort of foam pit, and Tacotopia is no different – this time take a swim in the Guac is Extra bowl!

Every Day is Taco Tuesday

When you’re done taking all the magical photos you want, Tacotopia encourages guests to try samples of sponsor Cholula’s different hot sauces before taking home a sample-size bottle of their own. Guests can wash the chips and hot sauce down with a free bottle of one of several flavors of Jarritos soft drink.

After working up an appetite and drooling over the life-sized taco artwork, Tacotopia gives guests a ticket for a complimentary taco at nearby Azule Taqueria, located upstairs in the 3rd Street Gallery. With taco choices like Garlic Shrimp Avocado and Pineapple Pork Belly, Azule Taqueria offers an explosion of flavor for your taste buds.

Swim in the Guac bowl and ride a mechanical taco yourself at Tacotopia, now through July 7th at the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, open from 11am to 9pm. Find out more information here, follow Tacotopia on Instagram, and purchase tickets (which vary per age) here.
