Futurama Pulls A-Head in the DVD Market

First, there was news of the joyous return of Matt Groening’s sci-fi brain child, Futurama, after a cripplingly long hiatus. Then came the news that the original voice actors weren’t getting their jobs back for said triumphant return. Then lo, the actors return and production on the new episodes begins anew.

But wait, there’s more. Fox has announced a whopping 19-disc box set. Futurama: The Complete Collection is set to release October 13th for around 200 smackers. Not a horrible price when figuring that owners, a paltry 25,000 of them, will get all 72 episodes with bonus features and the 4 feature-length films produced under Comedy Central’s banner. By my calculations, that’s a savings of over a hundred bucks.

Ah, but there’s an added bonus, all ye Planet-Express-enites. All 19 discs are shoved into a collectible Bender head case, accompanied by a letter from creator Matt Groening and producer David X. Cohen. If that weren’t enough, Bender’s antenna is detachable.

Okay, maybe that last one is hard to get excited about, but it’ll probably make a difference as to whether or not it fits in your DVD shelf.
