Golden Globe Upsets

Tonight the Hollywood Foreign Press hosted their 61st Annual Golden Globe Awards handing out awards for television and film. There were several upsets tonight in both genre’s and a lot to talk about at the water cooler tomorrow.

As for TV a surprise with for the BBC comedy The Office, which walked away with two awards. Also, the HBO movie Angels in America received five awards…the highest of the evening.

The biggest upset probably had to come with the film awards and Cold Mountain. With eight nominations, including Best Picture Drama, Cold Mountain only walked away with one award for Renee Zellweger as Best Supporting Actress. The biggest awards of the evening were surpises with Lost in Translation winning Best Picture Musical or Comedy and Lord of the Rings Return of the King taking Best Picture Drama. LOTRs won all four awards they were nominated for including Best Score, Song, Director, and Picture.

Each year the Golden Globes help to predict who will get the coveted Oscar. We won’t have to wait as long this year to find out, especially since the nominations will be announced on Tuesday 1/27.
