Yippie for Passion

I just love religious films. Not because they inspire me or because they lead me to a deeper understanding (of somebody else’s view) of Christ, but because they are usually surrounded by a flurry of media attention. I don’t get it. A movie can have 1500 murdered or dead people, but you kill one dude, and the world has to get involved to make sure it is correct, or appealing or whatever.

To add to the media hype around Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ”, 3 ‘units’ of the Vatican have approved of Gibson’s vision. The 3 units were the Vatican Secretariat of State, the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Next in line: to get everybody else to like the film too. The Anti-Defamation League has already requested a screening to make sure that reports of anti-Semitic content are not true.

Oh wait, we can’t offend anybody, so in this portrayal, Christ will accidentally trip over his own two feet, land on top of what looks like a three-foot tall telephone pole, and die waiting for somebody to help him down. This way, we can’t blame the Jews or the Romans, or anybody for killing the Son of God.

Give me a break. I hope this movie is half the Movie “The Last Temptation of Christ” was. At least this way we can see a crappy movie and beat on some protesters at the same time.

What fun!
