Timeline

Out of most of the staff here at Media Geeks, I’d have to say I’m the lightest critic, usually giving a film more than enough slack.

Honestly, I was looking forward to TIMELINE. Richard Donner, director of some film favorites of mine, such as GOONIES, MAVERICK, & SCROOGED. Frances O’Connor, some may recognize her from BEDAZZLED or A.I., I was interested in seeing. As well, as Gerard Butler from DRACULA 2000 & the 2nd TOMB RAIDER movie (yes I know not everyone’s favorites). I was even pleasantly surprised to see Lambert Wilson, who most will recognize as the Merovingian from the last two MATRIX movies. Even seeing Marton Csokas, who played the bad guy in XXX, was interesting to see appear in this film. My only problem with the cast was Paul Walker which I just label in my mind: “the white guy from the FAST & THE FURIOUS films” or “the dick from SHE’S ALL THAT.” I’m not really impressed with his acting ability.

Again, going in I was hoping this was a gonna be something worth seeing, but unfortunately the film was just too weak. I mean, the story (that I imagine isn’t too true to the book) was okay. The method & premise of time travel was decent but the characters weren’t given enough depth. Again, I wasn’t expecting much from Mr. Walker, but I don’t hold the actor accountable. I can only guess that something was lost in the translation from the book to the screenwriter. As much as I expect the boy to get the girl & the person to be saved, some of the goals for the characters were just reached a bit too easily.

If you’re curious about the plot, I’d probably suggest reading the book instead. Otherwise, wait for it as a rental, but only if you can’t find the rental you were originally looking for.

My Rating: Limited Edition

Todd's geekiness started off early with his family's first computer: a TRS-80. As a contributing writer, head photographer, lead programmer and one of the founders of Media Geeks, well, suffice it to say, he's a busy guy.
