Alien Breed: Evolution Invades PAX

Anyone remember 1991? I was in my sophomore year of high school, Terminator 2: Judgment Day became the new standard by which future sci-fi films would have to hold themselves to and Metallica releases their self titled album to become their best selling of all time. And Team 17, a little known UK developer, releases a top down shooter to the Amiga platform (remember those?) called Alien Breed. Anyone who remembers probably thought of it as Gauntlet in space, but that’s not exactly fair to the devs.

At any rate, after 18 years of sub-staining off Worms, Team 17 is bringing the franchise into the new millennium with Alien Breed Evolution. Using the Unreal3 engine, the title is being dubbed a “retro-modern” remake of the Amiga title. There was a bit of buzz back in April ’09, but a new series of screenshots colors us curious. They show a 3/4 down perspective run-n-gun with single player and co-op game play, taking down insect like aliens on a derelict ship with laser rifles and flame throwers.

Alien Breed will be making it’s way first to Xbox Live, then to PSN and Steam, though dates have yet to be announced. PAX attendees this weekend get the first crack at the shooter at Microsoft’s booth.
