Battlefield 1943 Missing In Action

Those in attendance at E3 09 willing to wait in uncertain lines at the top of every hour were treated by DICE and EA to receive a code giving them a free copy of their soon to be released shooter, Battlefield 1943, on their console of choice. The postcards instruct recipients to visit www.battlefield1943.com, type in the code, then wait until July 1st to receive the console-redeemable code by email.

Anyone visiting early, including yours truly, was treated to a page instructing viewers to check back on July 1st to enter the code so they can get in on the action. Now, I happen to be up at midnight quite frequently and tonight was no exception, so I figured I’d take a break from Ghostbusters, punch in my code and find out how Battlefield plays on the console in an arcade environment. Little did I expect to be delivered a mushroom cloud.

Visitors now jumping to the Battlefield promo URL printed on the card home page are dished out a big heaping helping of a 404 error (page not found). What gives? I’m no stranger to seeing game deliveries being pushed back, but digging a little further shows no sign of a delay. It’s a little disconcerting that their last “Latest News” post was on May 29th, the day they launched the site. They’ve been keeping up on their twitter, but no sign of specific set-backs there either, other than the random “we’re working on release dates” post.

No one from EA or Dice could be reached for comment. It IS midnight after all.

UPDATE: 4 hours after posting this article, EA/DICE update the official Battlefield 1943 Twitter stream with – “Redeem page for E3 X360 codes will be up today! Questions will be answered this week, just be patient”. A new link has floated to the surface in the official forums as well, but like visiting displays a message to check back July 1st.
