Battlefield 2142 Announced

Somehow we got so lost in our addiction to the Battlefield: Modern Combat demo for the Xbox 360 that we completely missed the announcement by EA of their exciting new followup due this Fall.

Forget WWII, Vietnam and Desert Storm. In fact, ditch the 20th century entirely. Beginning sometime in the late 2000’s, Earth is devastated by another Ice Age, this time without Ray Romana and Dennis Leary (ba-dum-bum). Much of the globe is covered in ice and what habitable tundra remains quickly becomes bloody as nations wage war to control it.

Military muscle on all sides takes the form of advanced weaponry including pilotable Mechs, 20 foot tall walking tanks armed with rockets and machine guns that can tear apart entire human squads like tissue. Pilots should be wary of special forces squads however, for their active-camoflauge can get them in close to attach high explosives to weaken or destroy the uninitiated.

The BF franchise has enjoyed nothing but success and based on the look of these screens, I have little doubt that Battlefield 2142 will surpass its predecessors in the online gaming market and look forward to further details from EA.
