G-Phoria Rolls Out its Orange Carpet for the Best Video Games

On Saturday July 31st SWG and I attended the taping of the second annual G-Phoria Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This year the show was hosted by Carmen Electra and her husband David Navarro. They definetly had their moments and were much better then last years Jamie Kennedy. They did paraodies on several different current video gaming news including the Star Wars Kid, which is now known as Star Wars Dave and the FCC regulations. This got a great reaction from the audience upon first glance.

The best part of the show was the fact that industry folks turned out to accept the awards for several different categories. This goes to show that they are finally beginning to understand that gamers want to have awards for their games as well as see the faceless people who have the extraordinary talent to create the games that they are addicted to.

The highlight had to be Anna Nicole Smith and her great need of attention. During her time on stage presenting the Hottest Character Award she proceeded to make a fool of herself, but give the audience a show. First of all she modeled each character from the nominees of her category and then she proceeded to still want more attention, so she began to act like she was stripping…only one lucky cameraman actually got a good picture of her showing one of her boobs. You can see that picture plus a couple of her others below including Farah from Prince of Persia, Ivy from Soul Calibur 2 and Staci Keibler from WWE Smackdown! Here comes the Pain. Anna was definetly on something and in her normal attention grabbing mood. She had to say her lines several times, even though they were on a teleprompter, and was almost pulled off stage for her antics.

There were several bands that played this year for the show including Phantom Planet, Jadakiss, and Chronic Future. Eventually when more people begin to take notice of the importance of video game awards there should hopefully be better bands playing or at least ones related to the games.
