Gobbowl Beta Launches September 8th

And now for something completely different. Completely. I can’t say I’ve even heard of another title in the genre of Gobbowl. ANKAMA, French developers of DOFUS and WAKFU, have combined rugby and American football with a distinctive anime art style in what they are dubbing an online strategic sport simulation. Gobbowl is a free to play, browser based title that takes place in the universe of their previous titles.

The gameplay pits 2 teams of five players whose sole purpose is to get the Gobball into the enemy goal. Players choose from 14 character classes with varying stat levels and special skills that have an elemental focus (earth, air, fire and water). At first glance, the gameplay has a tower defense feel to it with a specific set of rules assigned to each stadium location.

ANKAMA promises a permanent, persistent themed tournament system for players to climb the ranks. Additionally, they are emphasizing the free-to-play feature. Only cosmetic options will be subject to cold hard cash payments using in-game currency.

Open beta on the title begins on September 8th and lasts until the 18th, launching in English, French, German and Spanish simultaneously. For more details, visit www.gobbowl.com. For screenshots, stay right here.
