Halo's 100 Million March

Microsoft corporate VP Peter Moore announced this afternoon that Halo 2 sales will reach 100 million dollars. The frenzy to grab the game can only be likened to movie-goers, more specifically Star Wars fans, who have also been known to wait in line for hours to get a copy of their beloved sequels.

Early reports quote 1.5 million in pre-sold units and many retailers cleared several thousand units in the first few minutes of business. Last night, select retailers opened their doors to let fly the coveted discs at 12:01am.

The standard version sells for 49.99 and a special editions with some behind the scenes material sells for 54.99, so it should be no surprise that a single days worth of sales should surpass those of a movie whose ticket costs 5 times less. Even so, this is a major accomplishment and a first time for video game sales across the globe.
