Katamari Sequel Officially Announced

Easily one of the quirkiest but well accepted and addicting games of
2004 was Katamari Damacy. Players took control of the Prince of the
Cosmos, a little guy who looks like one of those squeaky toy hammers.
Like a growing snowball, it was the prince’s job to roll anything and
everything into everything else to grow this clump of objects as large
and bulky as possible.

Fans clamored and rumors abounded, but this morning Namco has
officially announced a sequel that looks to be just as quirky with new
objects to gather and a co-op addition. We Love Katamari rolls onto the
PlayStation 2 (date pending) later this year and brings the Prince and
some of his cousins back to Earth in an attempt to roll up everything
from paperclips to koi fish to cows to houses to mountains. Even well
known landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in France are fair game to be
added to the Prince’s giant rolling katamari.

Battle mode will return, pitting 2 players against each other to gather
the most stuff before time runs out, but new to the title will be
cooperative mode. Roll with a friend, each player controlling one part
of the giant clump and learn how to work together to better control the
giant ball in order to score better.

I can’t wait to give the sequel a shot and hope Namco considers a port
to the PSP. The game type seems a shoe-in for portable gamers and
battle-mode on a wireless is just way too tempting. Take in our
screenshots and visit http://www.namco.com for additional info in the near future.
