Rage – First Look

Post apocalyptic shooters are a dime a dozen these days, but it’s impossible to deny that some of the most successful games of all time fall under that category, so why wouldn’t a developer look to a grim future for inspiration? Players are forced to wade through the multitudes to find the best one.

2011 is no different and Bethesda has a doozy planned for a September release. RAGE for Xbox 360, PS3 and Games for Windows puts players in said post-apocalyptic world, rife with gangs, mutants and a questionable government entity that seems to be gunning for the player. Sounds familiar, right? Like I’ve played this before is another ‘half’ life. Hah! Get it? Anyway. The setting and story have a lot in common with titles like Fallout, Half-Life 2 and Gears of War. What helps it stand out is the promise of vehicular combat, particularly in the online multiplayer realm. Give me Unreal Tournament 3 with a story and you’ve definitely got my attention.

Round it out with unique weaponry (you mean I get my own Personal Turret?) and online co-op and Rage has the potential to make a name for itself amongst the other upcoming big titles: Brink and Bulletstorm.

Rage is expected to be released to stores September 13th, 2011.
