Resident Evil 5 Multiplayer Drops Tomorrow

We got a crispy last minute release this morning from Capcom confirming that Resident Evil 5’s multiplayer Versus mode will be available tomorrow (Tuesday, April 7th) for about 5 bucks on both the Xbox360 and PS3. Until now, the Resident Evil franchise hasn’t delved into competitive multiplayer territory, so this will be a new experience for fans of the survival horror series.

Versus pits up to 4 players against each other in two game types. Slayer’s Rule is point based, take out as many infected Majini zombies in the allotted time as you can to take first place. Survivor’s Rule is deathmatch, either 1 on 1 or 2 on 2. I would have liked to see a free-for-all deathmatch. As it turns out, free-for-all is built in.. my bad. I would have also liked to have seen a mode similar to Left 4 Dead’s core gameplay, where 2 on 2 would mean player controlled zombies.

Many fans bemoan the downloadable content as greedy; Capcom should have included the modes in the first place, but Capcom argues that they treated multiplayer as an entirely different project, with its own risk/reward stats. Personally, I agree that perhaps it should have been included, but I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth on the title and another 5 bucks for even one night of multiplayer mayhem isn’t too much to ask.
