SNK Developing First Title for Wii

SNK Playmore announced this morning the first title on their release list for the Nintendo Wii (formerly Revolution), Metal Slug Anthology.

The Metal Slug franchise is very well known as a long running action arcade title that started on the doomed Neo-Geo. You can still however find a few arcade cabinets with one version of the title or another. The new Anthology, also being produced for the DS, will sport the original 1996 game and its sequels, not to mention a few bonuses here and there.

Personally, I’m a fan of the series, mostly due to its viral game play and high quality stylistic animation, which should translate well to the DS, but one can’t help but ask ‘why for the Wii?’. The Wii’s first games should be graphically stunning, one might say revolutionary, to appeal to the mass gaming market. We aren’t putting pressure on SNK per se, but putting a collection of old video games on one disc is nothing new and doesn’t help to stir enthusiasm for a next-gen system.
