Some Secret Announcement about Some Next Gen System

It’s come to our attention, that some big, bold announcement is to be made by the newswires at 12:01am Eastern having to do with a next-gen system. Apprently the bigtime video game sites, newspapers and other venues of information have been given strict instructions not to release said info until minute 1 on Friday, September 8.

Well, we here at Media Geeks didn’t get the memo. Granted, we aren’t the biggest site around and don’t have all the hookups, so sure it’s a possibility that we simply weren’t included in the distribution. That said though, I’m not holding my breath. For all I know this could be a prank by the likes of Joystiq.com and Kotaku.com. There is of course OODLES of speculation based on recent events and already anticipated announcements. Here are a few (admittedly, I stole these from the previously mentioned sites):

  • Wii price announcement
    -somewhat likely considering the timing
  • Wii date announcement
-also relatively likely since speculation already says its 2 months away
  • PS3 dropping its price
-20% chance and falling considering recent European release delay
  • PS3 dropping out entirely
-not likely, despite the negative opinions washing over the net and the previously mentioned European fiasco
  • Xbox360 price drop
-perfect timing to gear up for Christmas sales
  • Sega throws in with Dreamcast 2
-not even close, but funny (from poster ronsmytheiii @ joystiq.com)
  • Change in exclusivity for (insert single console exclusive name here)
-observe, as I attempt a complete lack of caring

So although it could be some interesting news, the chance is equal that it’s just some bogus hype by (insert company name here) to generate interest in (insert product here) . Brian Crecente at Kotaku put it bluntly:

“While I’m sure you will all find it endlessly fascinating, in the end it really won’t get you any closer to the news most people want to know.”
