Xbox Update Could Mean Console Suicide

Take note, Xbox 360 owners. Tomorrow’s mandatory firmware update will give your console the ability to use a higher density disc, help combat piracy and activate Paypal options. It may also brick your system.

According to Microsoft (to Eurogamer), they “have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs”

“This issue manifests itself a as a unique ‘disc unreadable’ or ‘disc unsupported’ error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console.”

They haven’t said exactly what determines a system’s vulnerability, likely to prevent a deluge of calls from greedy gamers looking to score a new system. Anyone legitimately affected by the upgrade can contact Microsoft support (support.xbox.com/en-gb/pages/contact-us.aspx) have their inferior box replaced with a shiny new Xbox 360 S with a 250gb HD.
