Resident Evil 5’s LOST IN NIGHTMARES DLC

CAPCOM’s recently released new DLC for their 2009 hit RESIDENT EVIL 5, but is it worth it?

RE5’s first DLC came just weeks after the game’s initial release back in March of 2009. The released “Versus Mode” was mediocre mostly due to the built-in gameplay. Along with costume pack and extra figures, LOST IN NIGHTMARES (400 MS Points / $5.00) was offered to tell a bit more of the story. If you played through RE5, you should have noticed a bit of a plot hole about what happened to Jill.

From the beginning, as the chapter opens it may seem vaguely familiar to those who played the very first Resident Evil title. In the what is essentially a three part chapter, you explore the house of Umbrella founder Ozwell Spencer. Much like RE1 there is a lot of exploring, finding items and pulling levers. Much of the story is told through pages of text from Spencer and his loyal man-servant. The second part is where all the action is. In the dungeon of the house, a number of corpses get protected by the mutated hunchback with a giant rusty hammer.

As with the game itself, the gameplay can hinge on how well your companion plays. Sometimes the bot can defend itself, sometimes it’s just a lamb to the slaughter. The final part is a matter of running around and setting traps for the mutant hunchbacks.

Finally, in addition the extra chapter, you get two more characters that you can play in Mercenary mode. One of them is Barry Burton, a fellow S.T.A.R.S. team member, and Excella Gionne, Wesker’s go-to gal in RE5.

It’s hard to say whether such a small amount of content is worth $5. If you’re die-hard RE fan, you’ve probably already bought it. If someone gave you some Microsoft Points, use it on this add-on. If you’re on the fence or you’re bored, go ahead and get it.
