The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition

It’s been over a year since we took a look at the most recent Star Wars title, The Force Unleashed. Despite is glowing, movie-worthy plot and cinematics, the game was ultimately a disappointment, even for uber-fans like myself. The problem wasn’t with in the presentation, bur rather with the QA. Someone didn’t do enough sanity checks and the title went out full of bugs, at least on the Xbox 360.

I was hoping that July’s announcement that a re-release was eminent that included new levels and an alternate-storyline where the Dark Apprentice takes on Obi-Wan and eventually whiny-boy Luke himself would usher in bug fixes along with the new content. No such luck. Even the new stuff is plagued with errors, everything from falling into bottomless pits where your character plummets until you quit your game, to animations being caught in a loop and buttons having no effect.

There are a few pluses though. The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition won’t run you a full $60 like it’s original release did. Instead, it retails in at $39 and actually adds to the experience with three new levels, a limited edition tin case and one of 6 impressively rendered collectible art cards and book.

Now sure, that probably isn’t enough to warrant another purchase, but our rating gets a slight boost because we can’t think of anywhere else for a gamer to take on a Rancor, Skywalker-style, blast away at Boba Fett, take down Obi-Wan Kenobi AND turn Luke from whiny piss-ant to a raging sith warrior. So let’s say you’re a Star Wars fan and you were on the fence about spending hard earned credits on a sub-par Star Wars game with awesome writing. The smaller price tag and the added levels make it an easier purchase and the collectible angle doesn’t hurt neither.
