Nominees, Shmominees

Somehow I managed not to see a single academy nomincated movie this
year. As a self-named, amateur web published film critic, you would
think I’d make a point to see what are considered the best cinema-land
has to offer, but I have good reasons for not being interested.

Brokeback Mountain:
It’s not really the whole gay thing, so much that its a love story.
Between two men. Wearing chaps. Okay, so maybe it is the whole gay
thing that keeps me away.

Capote: It’s kinduva murder mystery, but its based on a real writer, writing about the murder. Historical documentary…not my thing.

Good Night, And Good Luck:
Mmmmm, McCarthyism. 1950’s witch hunt for communists in our country. I
figure seeing this would just piss me off with all the moronic paranoia
of our country. so another historical documentary. Plus, it’s in black
and white.

Munich: I
probably should have seen this. I may yet check it out. A secret band
of trained killers, out to get revenge on the men responsible for
killing Israeli Olympic athletes. Plus, you know, Steven Spielberg
can’t make a bad movie. Oh wait, War of the Worlds. More historical
stuff here too. Ugh.

Crash:
I still don’t even get what Crash is supposed to be about. Is it a Pulp
Fiction-y thing or a gritty Love, Actually thing? The trailer does
nothing but confuse me more. Hey, well, it’s got Sandra Bullock in
it…Don Cheadle’s not bad either. Matt Dillon, Brendon Fraser, Ryan
Philippe. Hold up, who the hell let Tony Danza into that party?

On the flipside, I did happen to see all 3 Best Animated Feature nominees. What does that say about me?

Christopher Kirkman

Christopher is an old school nerd: designer, animator, code monkey, writer, gamer and Star Wars geek. As owner and Editor-In-Chief of Media Geeks, he takes playing games and watching movies very seriously. You know, in between naps.
