Going Green Has Never Been So Fuzzy
OK Go’s funky take on the TV show’s theme song is reason enough to want to pick this up. The Green Album is a compilation of modern bands covering music from the The Muppet Show and various Muppet movies over the years. And yes, Mahna Mahna is on there, track number 3, and it completely captures the “scat cat” feel of the original, by The Fray.
Your track list follows:
- OK Go – Muppet Show Theme
- Weezer and Paramore’s Hayley Williams – Rainbow Connection
- The Fray – Mahna Mahna
- Alkaline Trio – Moving Right Along
- My Morning Jacket – Our World
- Amy Lee – Halfway Down the Stairs
- Sondre Lerche – Mr. Bassman
- The Airborne Toxic Event – Wishing Song
- Atreyu’s Brandon Saller and Good Charlotte’s Billy Martin – Night Life
- Andrew Bird – Bein’ Green
- Matt Nathanson – I Hope That Something Better Comes Along
- Rachael Yamagata – I’m Going to Go Back There Someday
You can listen to the whole thing right now, a little over 36 minutes straight, thanks to NPR streaming. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to skip forward or background, but it’s The Muppets and it’s free.
I can totally see The Alkaline Trio’s cover of Movin Right Along on my iPod in a heartbeat. Right next to Kermit and Fozzie’s original rendition.
The Green Album will be available online and in stores August 23rd.
