Spanish Simpsons On Strike

According to the Hollywood Reporter and Animation World Network, the spanish language voice actors of Fox’s long running animated series, The Simpsons, have been on strike now for several months, but are threatening to protest over a contract breach.

The series is regularly translated for roughly 60 countries and 20 different languages. Translation is done by non-Fox affiliates world wide and in Mexico it is a privately owned dubbing studio, Grabaciones y Doblajes (Recording and Dubbing). According to Mexico’s National Actors Association, the spanish speaking voice over artists claim that the company hired non-union members for work, an action that went against an exclusitiy agreement in their contract.

The dubbing facility doesn’t deny the hiring of said members, but they do contest that no such exclusive deal was stricken in their contract. The actors themselves, despite making a paltry $18 to $45 per episode, aren’t demanding money, only respect for their group.

Fox is reportedly avoiding the conflict like the plague. No word on how this could effect future broadcasts.
