Magic Bus Experience Will be a Nostalgic Psychedelic Trip
As the laws surrounding marijuana loosen and the use of psychotropic plants becomes more acceptable, Los Angeles is in for a treat for “stoner” holiday 4/20. A “60,000 square foot psychedelic wonderland,” the Magic Bus Experience is coming to The Reef downtown – complete with a giant coloring book, a white-out fog maze, a massive pillow/blanket fort, Munchie Mountain (specializing in chicken nuggets and tater tots), and more! Providing a safe, exciting space for adults to indulge in some colorful, vibrant fun, the two-day event also offers several interactive installations, live music, food trucks, games, and a “trippy” cinematic experience.

Before trying out the Magic Bus Experience for myself, I got a chance to ask one of the creators a few burning questions…
Q: Is this the first iteration of the Magic Bus Experience?
A: Magic Bus Experience is a BRAND NEW event celebrating marijuana and psychedelic culture being held at The Reef in downtown Los Angeles on 4/20 and 4/21, 2018.
Q: Where did you get the idea for the Magic Bus Experience?
A: The marijuana laws are changing all over the country, as is the stigma of organic psychotropic use. Our goal is to take the non-traditional holiday of 4/20 and open it up to the new demographic of folks who are just now trying marijuana and psychotropic plants for the first time, offering them a safe and fun environment to play in while they do. We also appeal to long-time users, who will find our whimsical, immersive environments a unique alternative to other 4/20 events that may be happening.
Q: What are you most excited to share in the Magic Bus Experience?
A: When was the last time you crawled through a homemade pillow fort? Or got to draw on the walls with markers? How about stuffing yourself full with unlimited chicken nuggets and tater tots? Have you ever rode a giant Zippo lighter or watched a live band perform Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” and “Darkside of the Moon” in their entirety? Bouncing “High Horse” races and black-light UFO lounges make these environments more than just over-the-top selfie spots, they are fully immersive, interactive artistic installations.
Q: How did you decide what to include in the Magic Bus Experience?
A: A safe, fun and stimulating environment was always our goal. Nostalgia is a key ingredient to feeling happy, so we used the bright, vibrant psychedelic tradition of the 1960s and 1970s to paint the experience. We went one step further and designed experiences that were child-like and fun in their concept, but built them in a larger, adult-sized way.
