Blondie Bond Announced
Escorted up the River Thames by Royal Marines, Daniel Craig
stepped off a speed boat in England today as the next James Bond. Craig
replaces Irishman Pierce Brosnan to become the 6th actor to play the
dashing super-spy in the next action flic, Casino Royale, currently in
pre-production. The plot centers around Bonds plans to thwart a russian
spy’s plans for winning a multi-million dollar Texas Hold-Em tournament.
Judi Dench and John Cleese are scheduled to return as M and Q
respectively, but no other announcements towards casting have been
made. Despite that, many Bond fans are in a huff over the casting
decision citing that a blonde hair – blue eyed Bond goes against the
character and that Craig himself is just plain ugly.
Craig has proved his acting versatility however, most recently in Road
to Perdition, Tomb Raider and the upcoming Layer Cake. In the press
conference, the 37 year old actor said that he had no intention of
redefining the James Bond character, a franchise worth over $4 billion,
but instead looked to explore other sides of the spy that audiences
have yet to see.
Casino Royale is slated for a fall 2006 release.
