Hop Trailer: Did he just crap candy?
Santa Claus has dozens of movies and TV specials. The easter bunny has what…two? Maybe three? Guess he’s not the most popular holiday icon. I think there’ve been more movies about a leprechaun, though not nearly as innocent as Hop, an upcoming live action/animated crossover all the kids are talking about these days.
I’m not entirely sure why; maybe it’s that there are so few Easter bunny flics or because it comes to us from the makers of Despicable Me (which I thoroughly enjoyed), but I want this movie to do well. Trouble is when the trailer is packed with as much cliche jokes as this is, those hopes get a little dashed. The rabbits live on Easter Island. The main character’s name are E.B. and he’s not yet the Easter bunny. He actually poops jelly beans. I can forgive the plot being basically a rehash of a Looney Tunes short from 1947, but rehashing a ‘you ate poop’ joke already used in Alvin and The Chipmunks is just lazy.
Hop from Universal Studios opens in theaters this April.
