LA Film Critics Assn. awards
The Los Angeles Film Critics Association names American Splendor as the best picture of 2003. The Runner-up for the year was Sofia Coppola’s effort Lost in Translation.
Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) won for best director, followed by Clint Eastwood (Mystic River). Best Actress for 2003 was Naomi Watts (21 Grams), with Charlize Theron (Monster) as the runner-up. Best Actor went to Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) followed by Sean Penn (21 Grams and Mystic River).
Best Supporting Actress went to Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) with Melissa Leo (21 Grams) as the runner-up. Best Supporting Actor went to Bill Nighy (AKA, I Capture the Castle, Lawless Heart, and Love Actually) with the runner with Benicio Del Toro (21 Grams) as the runner-up.
Best Screenplay went to Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini for American Splendor followed by Steven Knight for Dirty Pretty Things.
Robert Altman will receive a lifetime achievement award.
