Passion Hits Theatres
Last night Passion officially opened to thousands of people for a midnight showing. The movie, which opened on more than 2,500 screens, is expected to do well at the box office in its opening days, thanks to church bookings, heavy viewer interest and the ongoing media frenzy. Already, merchandise associated with the film is on shelves and moving swiftly. A companion book to the film was at No. 20 on Amazon.com’s list as of Tuesday afternoon, and movie tie-ins range from replica crucifixion nails to Sunday morning sermons. There is talk about how violent and graphic the film is and how people are reacting to the film. So far the reviews are very mixed. On Tuesday the L.A. Times published a review on the front page of the paper rather then on the Calendar section. This alone sparked more conversation about how much more attention this film has been given versus others in the past. The media deems it difficult to stay away from this film because of the many controversies that surround the movie pertaining to the violence and possible anti-Semitism. In L.A. it was a quiet midnight opening with a lack of picketers, but that might change more with opening day. Just as a plea to movie goers…if you can not handle large amounts of blood and violence or the fact that the film is in Latin and Aramaic with English subtitles then please do not see the movie. The movie has a very strong R rating for a reason. This will allow others around you to enjoy it more rather then having you complain during the whole picture. That is enough of my opinion for now. Reviews will be done for this film by one of our Admin by the end of the weekend. To read more about the opening check out this article from cnn.com.
