Star Wars DVD Sales Soar
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment reports that the Star Wars DVD release scored $115 Million Dollars in sales the first day of release, 9/21/2004, noting that this number also includes sales numbers for the Lucasfilm “Star Wars Battlefront” video game. 20th Century has not yet released unit sales.
“Finding Nemo,” is the current first-day record holder, which sold 8 million units its first day of DVD release. Coming in second is “The Passion of the Christ,” which rung in 4.1 million units sold.
Given the introductory sale price of $42.99 per unit, Star Wars would have moved about 2.7 million units. That is well below the record holder, especially considering the quoted $115 million includes sales from “Star Wars Battlefront,” as well.
