50 First Dates

As a fan of both Drew Barrymore & romantic comedies, I was
interested in seeing 50 First Dates & I was pleasantly surprised.
It was a primarily a comedy with enough seriousness not to make it
cheesy. As I walked out of the theatre, I knew this was a DVD buy.

By setting the story in Hawaii, it set the bar pretty high to make sure
the video transfer was done well. Not a single artifact was noticeable,
nor were any colors muted. The crisp colors of Hawaii’s landscapes
& beaches came thru brilliantly. The audio was great. Although not
a big surround sound movie, the 5.1 mix made the dialogue & music
easy to understand & enjoy.

As with Adam Sandler’s & Drew Barrymore’s previous movie together
(Wedding Singer), this DVD is chalked full of extras. Notably, the
feature length commentary with the director & Drew was very
entertaining & enjoyable. The single disc also includes 3
featurettes, deleted scenes, a funny montage of outtakes, music videos
& much more, giving the buyer plenty of extras for their money.

Overall, unless you hate romantic comedies, Adam Sandler or Drew
Barrymore, I can’t think of any reason not to recommend this DVD.

50 first dates

Although I had strong objections to seeing this film, I actually enjoyed it; but I’ll get to that in a little bit.

The film follows the attempts at Henry Roth, played by Adam Sandler, to woo Lucy Whitmore, played by Drew Barrymore, the woman of his dreams. But this is no ordinary love. He is a serial lover, breaking the hearts of hundreds of tourists in a raw attempt to avoid any intimacy or commitment, and she has a strange mental illness that doesn’t allow her to remember anything past a good night’s sleep.

If this movie sounds familiar, that is because it has been done before.
