Cloverfield
Straight to the point:
Special Effects – I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Wow. I was impressed how “believable” the effects were, given the shakey camera footage. It was really nice to see a departure from the typical blockbuster-money shot-locked off camera-big budget stuff. I mean it didn’t have that polished look so many effects films have. I think you know what I mean.
Story – I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
It obviously had a very, very simple storyline. Save girl, run for your life. Nothing too complex, which is okay. I somehow liked the fact that you didn’t get all the information about the monster. You’re pretty much ‘in the dark’ about that and experience everything the characters are facing – making it somewhat that much more believable.
Hot sex – 0 out of 5 stars. Cuz there was none!
Things I liked:
The way they creatively showed the interplicing of the overwritten video footage. Funny at times.
Sound effects were pretty good.
The monster design wasn’t all that bad. Very unique.
Things I didn’t like:
Okay, call me a wuss, but I almost walked out ¼ way through. I felt myself getting motion sickness. However, I bit down on the guy’s arm next to me and I was alright. I know, I know, the shakey camera look has its purpose in the movie, but it was something I had to get used to.
Other than that, I thought it was an okay movie.
