Stepford Wives, The (2004)

Even before buying my ticket, I was already skeptic that the film wouldn’t be that good.

Now, the 1975 original STEPFORD WIVES, was Sci-Fi Thriller. Why in hell
would you remake it into what seems to be advertised as a family
adventure (according to the trailers). Again, if you’re “updating” a
film, why would you do an opening credit sequence of the 50’s
push-button age advertisements? I get the STEPFORD WIVES are 50’s
wives, but that wasn’t the point of the story. Honestly, I think Frank
Oz needs to quit his mediocre directing & go back to sticking his
fist up puppets & doing voices.

Nicole Kidman stars as a
TV network CEO that went to far & ruined herself. To start over
she, her husband (played by Matthew Broderick), & her kids, move to
a town they heard about called Stepford. Eventually they meet other new
move-ins played by Bette Midler, Jon Lovitz & Roger Bart. Honestly
the saving grace of the movie is the trio of Nicole, Bette & Roger.
The scenes they have together got me laughing enough to forget for a
little while how slow the plot was moving. Overall other cast had a few
good jokes, but the trio got the best of them.

I admit, I
was a bit biased going in to see the film, but the film is average
hollywood movie. And trust me, I’m being generous when I give it a 3.
