Going into this movie, I already had low expectations. I figured this would be a lame vampire movie with a thin Romeo & Juliet plot, lame characters, over done CGfx & cheap fight sequences. Not only was I wrong, but pleasantly surprised.

Kate Beckinsale stars as a vampire who hunts down members of the Lycan clan (werewolves), in a blood feud that’s lasted centuries. Together with a cast of relative unknowns, they all do a decent and believable job while keeping the pace of the film going. Along with wisely used CGfx & excellent makeup work, the Lycans come to life in all it’s primal glory. The fight sequences too, were well done. Although Selene (Beckinsale) mainly sticks to her guns, a wide range of weaponry & fighting was used, making the sequences exciting to watch.

Lastly I need to give praise to Les Wiseman, who went from prop assistant for ID4 (Independence Day) & STARGATE, to debuting his directing (including art direction) & writing talents with this movie.

If you’re a fan of Kate, vampire action movies, or action movies, you won’t be disappointed with this movie.
