PPC Introduces Locking HDMI Cable at E3
This one comes from the “Well, okay, I guess” department. New York based PPC, a connection and adapter manufacturer, has chosen E3 2009 as the venue to introduce an HDMI Locking Cable for gamers.
According to the release, the cable “provides a rock solid connection between any PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 Elite system for a pure HDTV quality gaming experience.” And their tag line? PPC Cable Stays Put While Gamers Move – 3X Stronger than Competition.
Now, I’m all for HDMI. If you don’t have hi-def, you’re missing out on a lot, but I feel like I have to point out a few things:
- Any moving I do as a gamer is done relatively remotely, and certainly not tethered to a wire.
- Even if I were tethered by a wire, I can’t fathom moving so much as to jostle my console to such a degree that would unhinge my standard HDMI cable without otherwise breaking the console or at least interrupt the spinning of the game disc.
- My plain ol $7.99 HDMI cables have never…repeat…never come loose from my TV or receiver unless I was specifically trying to remove them. Any gamer doing this by accident is taking hardcore to a new level.
I’m sure its a fine HDMI cable in it’s own right, but starting at $48.99 for a 3 footer is actually PRICIER than the overpriced and over hyped Monster brand cable of the same length.
