Call of Duty 2 Patch Finally Released

Though it was announced yesterday, we had to really see it for
ourselves. Infinity Ward and Activision pushed an update to Call of
Duty 2 for the Xbox 360. The patch, released 4 months after the initial
game’s release, addresses all of the biggest complaints gamers had for
the multiplayer side of things.

Up
until now, playing online was very hit or miss. The game would choose
what it perceived as the fastest connection to host from but wouldn’t
give that player any options to control the server with. Lag became
unbearable and unacceptable, especially in ranked games where dropping
out over frustration would dock you ranking points.

Fortunately,
it seems that all is finally well. A 20 second patch (if that) does the
job well enough to remove the almost archaic problems, even if it may
be too little too late for gamers who’ve recently purchased the new
Ghost Recon game. Here are all the changes:

  • Active Game Hosting (create your own server)
  • Pre-Game Lobby (choose map, modifiers, talk to opponents)
  • Player Kicking Rights to Host
  • Reserved spots (leave room for those on your friends list)
  • Ability to invite players
  • Lag is all but gone.

The
changes make for a MUCH more exciting game and certainly less
frustrating. Now, if only IW would start posting player ranks and
setting up tournaments, as their website suggests.
