Gears of War Vault is a Red Ring of Death You Might Want
Gears Heads, listen up. You’ve probably already pre-ordered Gears of War 3 or plan to hit up the local midnight release sale to get a jump start at tearing into Locusts like tissue paper. But will your Xbox bleed out with you when the time comes. Peripheral manufacturer Calibur11 has your back.
Somewhere between case mods and console skins, Calibur11 makes a series of peripherals they call Vaults. A hardware ‘skin’ that helps to improve airflow and changes the aesthetic of the Xbox 360 Slim altogether. In partnership with Epic Games, The Gears of War Vault effectively transforms the console into a vicious looking wound, in a good way. On one side, the case features a raised Gears skull & gear logo against a burnt and bloody background. The other provides a handy controller hook with the same motif.
What makes this Gears Vault unique is the in-game interaction. The logo flashes and glows brighter as you take damage in-game, not-so-subtly reinforcing the need to take cover, thanks to USB connectivity. Throw in a custom faceplate and for around 90 bucks, you too can have a console worthy of a COG soldier.
