Grant, Token Jock, Joins X-Men: Destiny
A new X-Men movie might automatically spur a new X-Men video game, but this year’s upcoming X-Men: Destiny has little to do with the movie, or familiar characters for that matter.
Today’s introduction is to Grant, a Georgia jock who just wants to play football. The screenshots (nor the press release) reveal much about Grant’s mutant abilities, but best guess based on the image have him emitting electricity, having some sort of super-strength and stone arms (Density Control, whatever that means).
Grant is in San Francisco hoping to land a starting spot for the University of California, Berkeley, Varsity Squad. Oblivious to the world tensions, Grant doesn’t see that the peace rally and threatening protesters around him have any connection to his life. When he discovers his own mutant powers, Grant is faced with the realization that mutant/human relations are absolutely his problem.
Developer, Silicon Nights, is promising an evolving character storyline where decisions impact the gameplay and plot. We’ll give it a once over at E3 in a few weeks.
X-Men: Destiny is expected to be released Q3/Q4 2011 for the PS3, Wii, Xbox360 and Nintendo DS.
