Hamsters come to the PS2

In one of the most bizarre joint partnerships this geek has ever seen, Data Design Interactive (DDI) and Rolf C. Hagen Inc have joined forces to create a single and multiplayer puzzler for the PS2.

Rolf C. Hagen Inc are the manufacturers of the Habitrail brand of small animal accesories. Food, enclosures and bedding. Think hamster tubes and their plastic balls and you’re on the right track. The yet unnamed game pits players as Herbie the Hamster, the manufacturers mascot, as he maneuvers through obstacles and mazes to reach his favorite ‘Living World’ brand hamster food.

Clearly, the game is a marketing tool, but the colorful environments and somewhat distinct characters might make it an ideal game for the younger set. The game even offers 4 player head to head play as well as a solo game for lonely hamsters. Typically speaking, these maze/puzzle games get pretty repetetive, even with varied environments and obstacles. The multiplayer might appeal to a party mentality, but most likely only for 8-12 year olds. Parents, good luck avoiding the “can we get a real hamster?!?!” bombardment.

Game coming soon to the PS2 and PC platforms.
