Namco Museum Battle Collection Reminisces on the PSP
I’ve yet to drop the hefty $250 for Sony’s portable flagship, the PSP,
but a recent announcement from Namco just might push me over that edge.
The company behind Soul Calibur and Tekken announced a new title for
the portable unit, Namco Museum Battle Collection.
It’s an odd name, a familiar concept and a welcome addition. Arcade
classics, like Pac-Man, Galaga and Dig Dug get the future treatment.
The new title will include over 20 games, many of which are direct
ports of the original arcade titles as well as updated versions with
cleaner and more animated images, stereo sound and multiplayer options.
Check out these screenshots.
Namco is promising the use of
the PSP’s built in wireless gaming to get up to 4 players in on the
action working together or competing against each other. Expect a
summer release of Namco Museum Battle Collection for the PSP which
includes the following titles:
- Galaga
- Pac-Man
- Ms. Pac-Man
- Dig Dug
- Dig-Dug 2
- Xevious
- Bosconian
- Mappy
- Tower of Druaga
- Dragon Buster
- Grobda
- King & Balloon
- …over 20 titles included
Funny how simple graphics, plunky sounds and simple gameplay can be
more attractive for a portable unit than all the Gran Turismos and
Metal Gears in the world.
