Plain Sight Beta Launch
Being not only a game journalist, but a wannabe developer, it’s important for me to support the independent gaming community. Not only do many of the freshest ideas come from them, but the best rags to riches articles come from them. Well, I suppose all the rags to riches articles come from them. At any rate, if I were to ever get a game going, I’d want some free advertising too, so I’m investing in future karmic payback by spreading the word about Plain Sight.
London based indie developers, Beatnik Games, have a whopping 6 employees, but have managed to put together some intriguing gameplay in Plain Sight. Described as a “3D multiplayer arcade game with robots; robots who bounce around cityscapes on mini planetoids and wield swords which are used to destroy one another.” Using Microsoft’s semi-open-source XNA engine, the title is relatively simplistic gameplay: Jump around an urban planetoid (physics are similar to the flippy, gravity altering Super Mario Galaxy) to find other players and slice through them, thus earning points which upgrade your speed, size, strength, etc.
You only get to keep said points by blowing yourself up, ideally whilst taking a few of your opponents with you. More points accumulated, bigger explosion. The team is looking for beta-testers now up through January. Interested robocidal maniacs can sign up by visiting http://web.archive.org/web/20090803140156/http://www.plainsightgame.com:80/beta
Personally, I’m intrigued and look forward to my chance at the beta. These blokes are stepping up to live their Americ…uh… British Dreams and the blog style website show you what average Joes they all are, so more power to em.
