Revolution Gives Parents Control

In a press release this morning, Nintendo announced that each of their
next-gen consoles will give parents the ability to lock out
questionable content and games with the use of a V-Chip like control.

For years, Nintendo has been scrutinized for denying mature materials
from making it to their consoles, with a select few exceptions. Known
for being ‘family friendly’, hardcore gamers are more likely to steer
clear of the brand and its games. By adding parental control, Nintendo
in a sense re-opens their gates for games of all content and maturity
levels while empowering parents to have a say in what their children
have access to.

The ratings for each game are encoded on the disc and are dictated by
the ESRB rating standards, that will lock or unlock a title based on
the parental control settings. It should add some well deserved merit
to the industry’s efforts to police itself and take some thunder away
from law makers who claim government should step in to control game
sales.
