Sony’s PSX gets less

The new PSX system, originally dubbed as THE household entertainment console to get, has lost many of its features to meet the Xmas holiday rush.

One of the most important features lost is the ability to play audio CD’s or MP3’s files. Not much of a entertainment console if it can’t play music.

Also lost was the ability to record or play DVD’s in DVD+RW format (leaving the DVD-RW and DVD-R Formats in its wake), a drop in the recording speed, and the ability to grab some of the Sony video formats from Sony Digital cameras.

Sony states that these lost features will be replaced through downloadable firmware. The unit has an outrageous planned selling price of $731 for a 160 GB unit that can hold up to 204 hours of television recordings. There are also plans for a 250 GB unit, but the price has yet to be released.

The PSX has a planned release date of December 13 in Japan. US availability has not yet been announced.
