Square Enix Roasts 800

In a major server sweep Sunday Square Enix, developers and publishers
of the mass-rpg series, Final Fantasy, permanently banned 800 player
accounts from its popular online RPG, Final Fantasy XI. The move was in
response to mounting complaints of high level characters “camping” as
well as general harassment.

Unlike its first person shooter definition, camping in an MMORPG refers
to the practice of overpowering an area rich with unique and or
valuable items. High level players will frequently band together to
fight the online enemy monsters exclusively and keep lower level
players from entering the area. This effectively gives those players
control over the virtual economy, simlar to corporate monopolistic
practices.

Square Enix continues to urge players to report
harassment and these overbearing, unfair play tactics to keep a feeling
of healthy competition in its game.
