Top Shot Arcade Preview
There aren’t a whole lot of good reasons to go to a brick and mortar arcade anymore. Older gamers will get some nostalgia from standing up at a cabinet and pew-pewing away like they did when they were kids. Nowadays, the only unique experiences you’re gonna get is with large scale light-gun games and driving sims.
The Wii was really poised to bring those light gun games home, minus the 4 foot long tethering cable. It seems like those titles are few and far between though. Link’s Crossbow comes to mind, as does Resident Evil’s on-rails shooter Umbrella Chronicles. Nothing like the classic Point Blank arcade shooters or Time Crisis made it out of Playstation Territory. Top Shot Arcade might just fill that void.
Top Shot Arcade from Activision for the Nintendo Wii is an arcade shooter/hunting title for up to 4 players. It boasts 75 shooting gallery-like stages and 15 bonus games. Also featuring head-to-head competition, it could make for a good party game. Online leaderboards round out the competitive nature of the title, just like the old high score screens of the local quarter-castles.

We’ve yet to get our hands on it, but there are a few promising draws. Humor takes center stage, rather than blood letting, like many arcade shooters. Perhaps the biggest value point is the price. The game alone will run you $29.99, considerably less than even most Wii titles, but $49.99 will get you the game AND the Top Shot Elite peripheral gun that features pump action reload and an adjustable stock. Not too shabby, especially when comparing it to similar recent titles on the PS3.
Certainly could make for a great distraction, especially if you’ve got a nice big TV and a few friends over.
Top Shot Arcade is rated T for Teen and available in stores now.
