Prince of Persia…Coming to the Big Screen

At first I was thinking this might be another bad movie idea, especially since most video games do not translate very well onto the big screen…then I read that it would be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The same man that just did an awesome job of translating a Disneyland ride to a multi-million dollar Oscar nominated film.

Jordan Mechner, the game creator, will be penning the script and looks forward to working with Bruckheimer. When asked about the script Mechner says Bruckheimer’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” was a touchstone for the adaptation. “Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we’re taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story — much as ‘Pirates’ did with the theme park ride.” This makes me very happy and all for the movie.

Bruckheimer is still in talks for the feature film rights to the best-selling video game that would be distributed by Disney. With scripts still being worked on and all the deals still to come this picture could be a year or two off, but it might actually be worth the wait.
