Infinium Labs Concedes, HardOCP Takes a Breath
After several major denials by court officials, not to mention ego obliterating press, Infinium Labs, the much maligned, so-called makers of the Phantom video game console filed two motions with the US District Court, conceding to HardOCP, the gamer’s web site that had the guts to report the facts behind the company and it’s founder Tim Roberts, not to mention stick by their guns.
HardOCP reported over a year ago that much of what Infinium Labs put out to the public, including physical addresses, manufacturing plants and financial specs were not only misleading, but it’s founder had a paper trail of questionable circumstance. Gamer’s have come to know The Phantom as vaporware, a promise for streaming games, similar to satellite TV service, that has yet to see the light of day. A few of the consoles were on display at last year’s E3 gaming conference, but had little to demonstrate, using 2 year old game samples that showed little prowess. The console was originally promised for store shelves in Winter of 2003.
According to WhereIsPhantom.com, the court motions relent to HardOCP’s article, releasing the web site of liability and pulling back claims of slander and heresay. A supposed leaked e-mail from founder Tim Roberts to IL employees reads like damage control:
“Kevin (Bachus) and I discussed whether it made since for the company to continue pursuing this action which was non-monetary and we both felt it was a bad decision from the start and a waste of our time and efforts”
Yeah, question in the back! You say it was a bad decision from the start? Why is it sir, that you pursued the issue for nearly a year and a half?
Seriously though, congratulations and kudos go out to HardOCP.com for their stout heartedness and strength through corporate pressure tactics, albeit 200 grand in legal fees later.
