AOL Gets Bitchy

Ok, I digress.. I should NOT have praised AOL so soon (I praised them last week for thier upgrades to AOL 9.0) since on Friday they asked thier parent company AOL Time Warner to stop using thier name in the corporate title.

To borrow from a great ranter.. I don’t want to get off on a rant here but how quickly AOL has forgotten how to be a team player. A company that not only welcomed this merger back in 2001 but initiated it and now OWNS Time Warner, has now used and abused all that it’s parent company Time Warner could offer and is now trying to distance themselvs.

AOL wanted to be AOL Time Warner so that it could become more of an omnimedia type of presence, something that could turn “America Online” into “America In Studios”, “America On Television” and “America In Print”.

AOL has said “AOL’s brand would benefit from being removed from the corporate name”. Now I don’t know what marketing nitwit thought this one up, but no one in their right mind confuses the AOL part of the AOL Time Warner corporate name with anything but the idiot-riddled company we’ve all grown to loathe and hate.

More than anything else I think the Time Warner corporate name is the one being dragged through the mud with AOL attached.. to this day I still cringe when I see “AOL TIme Warner” on movie trailers and on TV.

AOL head moron Jon Miller also stated “I believe it’s time for us to get our brand back”, I agree.. Let’s at least fix the name, even if it isn’t for the reasons they wanted…
